Package Overview
The 7-Day Machame Route: Better Acclimatization & Stunning Peaks is one of the most scenic and rewarding ways to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. Known as the “Whiskey Route,” Machame offers varied landscapes—rainforest, moorlands, alpine desert, and glaciers—while providing excellent acclimatization with its “climb high, sleep low” profile. Over seven days, this route maximizes summit success rates and offers spectacular views of Mawenzi and Shira peaks before the final ascent to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m).
Day 1: Machame Gate to Machame Camp (2,835 m)
Begin your trek at Machame Gate, where permits are checked and porters prepare supplies. Hike 5–6 hours through lush rainforest alive with monkeys and exotic birds. Arrive at Machame Camp, your first overnight stay on the mountain.
Day 2: Machame Camp to Shira Camp (3,750 m)
Ascend steeply through heathland and moorland zones with stunning views of Shira Plateau. The trek lasts 4–6 hours and ends at Shira Camp, where you rest beneath Kilimanjaro’s towering western slopes.
Day 3: Shira Camp to Lava Tower (4,630 m) and Descent to Barranco Camp (3,976 m)
This is a key acclimatization day. Hike 5–7 hours, ascending to Lava Tower before descending to Barranco Camp. The “climb high, sleep low” strategy helps your body adjust to altitude. Camp beneath the impressive Barranco Wall.
Day 4: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp (3,995 m)
Climb the famous Barranco Wall, a thrilling scramble with rewarding views. Trek across ridges and valleys before reaching Karanga Camp, a crucial stop for rest and acclimatization.
Day 5: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp (4,673 m)
Trek through alpine desert landscapes to Barafu Camp, the final base before summit night. Rest, refuel, and prepare for the early morning climb to the roof of Africa.
Day 6: Summit Day – Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) and Descent to Mweka Camp (3,110 m)
Begin the summit push around midnight. Ascend steep slopes via Stella Point (5,739 m) before reaching Uhuru Peak (5,895 m), Africa’s highest point. Celebrate your achievement and descend carefully to Mweka Camp for overnight rest.
Day 7: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate (1,640 m)
Complete your descent through lush rainforest, arriving at Mweka Gate, where you will receive your summit certificate. Transfer to your lodge or Arusha to celebrate your successful climb.
