The 7-Day Lemosho Route: Scenic, Quiet & Summit-Friendly is designed for climbers seeking a balance between a peaceful, scenic experience and a high summit success rate. Starting from the western side of Kilimanjaro, this route passes through lush rainforests, moorlands, and alpine deserts while offering quiet, less-crowded trails. Over seven days, climbers gradually acclimatize, culminating in a successful summit at Uhuru Peak (5,895 m). Expect breathtaking landscapes, wildlife sightings, and a memorable Kilimanjaro adventure.
Day 1: Londorossi Gate to Big Tree Camp (2,100 m)
Begin at Londorossi Gate, trekking through dense rainforest filled with birds, monkeys, and vibrant vegetation. The moderate hike of 3–4 hours leads to Big Tree Camp, where you spend your first night surrounded by nature.
Day 2: Big Tree Camp to Shira 1 Camp (3,500 m)
Ascend from forest into open moorlands, enjoying panoramic views of the Shira Plateau. Reach Shira 1 Camp, a scenic plateau providing stunning vistas of Kilimanjaro’s western slopes.
Day 3: Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp (3,850 m)
Continue trekking across the Shira Plateau, taking in unique flora and geological formations. Arrive at Shira 2 Camp, where gentle terrain allows your body to acclimatize while enjoying peaceful surroundings.
Day 4: Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp (3,950 m)
Descend slightly and trek into Barranco Valley, navigating rocky formations and cliffs. Barranco Camp offers a strategic resting point before tackling the Barranco Wall and higher elevations.
Day 5: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp (4,035 m)
Climb the iconic Barranco Wall and traverse alpine desert landscapes toward Karanga Camp, gaining altitude gradually while taking in panoramic views of the mountain’s eastern face.
Day 6: Karanga Camp to Barafu Hut (4,700 m)
Ascend through high-altitude desert terrain to Barafu Hut, the final camp before summit day. Rest and prepare for the early morning climb to Uhuru Peak.
Day 7: Summit Day – Barafu Hut to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) and Descent to Mweka Camp (3,100 m)
Start your summit attempt around midnight. Ascend steep slopes through the Saddle to reach Uhuru Peak (5,895 m), Africa’s highest point. Descend carefully to Mweka Camp for overnight rest before completing your trek.
